#killingit isn’t based on a theme, but rather a process. It’s having an idea and making it work, it’s about experimentation, craftsmanship, imagination and standing by your art.
Over the coming months BY OTHER MEANS GALLERY will the home to the new project: #Killingit!
BY OTHER MEANS GALLERY has selected some of London’s favourite artists to put together an amazing calendar of exhibitions, performances and events that will take over the gallery.

The DOWNTOWN 500 MAGAZINE presents projects of fellows around the subject of social interaction. Experimenting with media methods we attempt to discover diverse art works to engage with and contribute either for a beginner, graduate, amateur or established.
Concepts of being displaced and isolated in a new environment or new step are questioning courage, freedom of expression and talent.
Alongside artistic positions which aim to push boundaries of society towards creating more space for self-realisation or creative refuge, critical reflection and empathy.
DT500 is using chances to join different interactive works, workshops or one to one discussions all around.
No It Is Not; Not Always
By this exhibition we present the heroes who are indeterminate and unclear characters. However, it would be strange to demand clarity from people at a time like ours. But it is quite certain:
our hero is a strange individual, an eccentric figure.
The strangeness and eccentricity are more likely to harm than give the right to attention, especially when everyone is striving to unite particularities and find at least some common sense in the general muddle.
Our thesis is:
” THE ECCENTRICITY, IN MOST CASES, IS PARTICULAR AND ISOLATED, ISN’T IT ?
If you do not agree with this thesis and your answers are:
” No it is not; or Not always “
Just right here is the start of our inspirational moment.
Not only is the eccentric figure “ NO IT IS NOT ” OR ” NOT ALWAYS” the particularity and isolation, but on the contrary, it happens that the eccentric one, perhaps, carries a core of the whole existence at some point, but the rest of the people, by some other kind of strangeness, for a time are breaking away from it.
Just as the object or an individual has to overcome their fears in life; f.e., the fear of standing out or coming out, the fear of not / being noticed, the fear of being particular or isolated, the fear of being photographed, the fear of not/ being immortilized. Even the photographer has to overcome the fear of being rejected, the fear of making a statement, the fear of being turned down, and ultimately the fear of making artwork, being creative ect… The horror of self-destructiveness, the hard work with irrationality, learning will-power and faith versus success and self-realization.
Artists: Arthur Sopin and Andreas Roed by their project DT500 MAG are performing their conceptual artistry a l´art brut, as a social art. It is a contemporary documentary inspired by Downtown 500 NYC aesthetics, where they use a zine as the main form of communication along with Instagram, video, photography etc….
At the same time it is about an eccentric object, a contemporary hero -an artist, a dilettante, in his purity, naivety, with his dilemmas, fears and anxieties, but also about his idealism, cynicism and inexperience, making his individual creative researchers, finding himself by meeting people, learning and gathering inspiration, a free human being who will one day succeed.
