I AM WHAT I EAT!…WELL, KIND OF!
I mean, I’m not necessarily a kimchi salad just because I’ve had some for lunch but talking about kimchi salad, think about this for a bit;
IF FOOD = INFORMATION AND INFORMATION = KNOWLEDGE AND KNOWLEDGE = POWER,
THEN IF IT’S MY POWER TO DO, I CAN’T HELP BUT CHOOSE THE RIGHT STUFF FOR MY BODY!
Not that I always do since I’m not still in a place of power (and because knowledge isn’t wisdom), but my body is my spaceship, and it does deserve the best it can get. And so does yours! I recently read an article on gut bacteria, and it blew me away! The human gut is home to more living bacteria than the cells that make up the body.
Professor Simon Carding of the University of East Anglia:
‘They (the organisms in the gut) outnumber the human cells by more than 10:1!’
Think about that for a minute; for every human cell, there are 10 organisms. Not only that, but the professor says that we’re ‘under the influence’ of microorganisms present in the body. Not surprising, considering the number of them! I imagine I tripped out conspiracy theories popping up like aliens invading the planet and taking us over…from the inside!
But what is he saying?
That we’re infested by billions of protoplasmic microbial aliens? Has this man been on some funky delusional substances? I’m not sure, but apparently, he’s a certified professor who knows what he’s doing research for the sake of science and the evolution of mankind. He goes on to say that we have around 3000+? ‘species’ of bacteria in our gut and that losing them could cause adverse effects on our health.
He states that to fix your brain, you must set your gut and that our gut is our second brain!
The bacteria he’s referring to are also called probiotics. We find them in fermented foods like yogurts, sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir, etc.
But are we getting it?
The national dish of Norway is Pizza Grandiosa (it’s actually Får I Kål, but the former is usually the standard amongst the Norsk). You do the math. Back in the days before refrigerators, vacuum bags, and freezers were the norm, pickling and fermenting were how the wise old or maternal figures of the home would preserve the harvested goodies of the season.
So bacteria have been on our side since time began, and it looks like they’re not leaving us anytime soon, either. Some say the road to good health starts in the kitchen, and it’s the heart of the home!
It’s ingrained in us to remember how it’s almost always a sight to see people gather in the kitchen at a house party and stay there as long as possible amongst the crew, cookies, and condiments.
To me, the word ‘bacteria’ used to have a negative tone. Making me squirm a little and imagine nasty things like rotting food from a garbage bin wreaking all sorts of foul odours that dissolve my nostril hair as I inhale the corruptive fumes and thinking about it could almost plunge me into a paranodal fit because I learned they’re effing everywhere. Talking about bacteria and all, here’s another one from Popular Science online; Biologist Kenneth Nealson discovers that certain bacteria live on electrodes taking energy from them for their growth.
“As soon as I saw what Shewanella could do, I just went wacky,”
– Nealson says.
“I called all my students into the lab, and I said,”
‘This is a very, very important organism to understand. Nobody will believe it, and it will take us 10 or 15 years to convince the world it’s true.’
He’s apparently worked as a biologist for 45 years and has never seen anything like it.
“It’s just wild to have your whole view change so drastically.” -he says.
To give a little detail of the article, this discovery means we must completely change how we look at biology. It basically twists everything we know, turns it sideways, and puts up that special place we all know so well! He thinks the bacteria could be used one day as a source of energy.
Not only that, but it also has a clean and way more eco-friendly way to dispose of your crap like sewage and organic waste, the only by-product being more energy. Eco-Freaks should get on this wagon! It’s a win-win!
IN A WORLD WHERE WE MAKE WEAPONS, RAISE TAXES AND BLOW UP VILLAGES INSTEAD OF FIXING THE PROBLEMS THAT LEAD TO THAT HAPPENING IN THE FIRST PLACE. A SYSTEM WITH A ‘DESIGNED TO FAIL’ MATRIX, THE PHARMA MAFIOSA GRANDE, RETARDED POLITICS AND PEOPLE EATING SHIT OUT OF A CUP. (YES, I SPELT IT CORRECTLY ‘, SHIT-OUT-OF-A-CUP’, BUT COULD THAT BE CLASSED AS ART? I DON’T KNOW!) AMONG OTHER HUMAN/INHUMAN PHENOMENA AND ACTIONS. IT’S LIKE A RAINBOW WITH UNICORNS FLYING AROUND IT, FARTING BUBBLES.
How big is this industry of nutrition?
In this age of stinky capitalism, not that anything is looked at with dollar sign-shaped glasses, but everything!
That statement sounds totally retarded, for example: ‘what if the cost of making money is more than the money to be made?’
How does this relate to nutrition?
To put it bluntly… sickness is big business! This is where the knowledge = power equation loses its standing because the final destination is money in a capitalistic monetary system! And especially profit (more money)!
But most of it is digital, isn’t it? It exists in binary code, numbers on a screen; it’s immaterial! How do you put a value on that?
And we still need to talk stock markets or banks… Or taxes! But it’s all linked. Food. Health. Drugs. Money. And the list goes on!
WHAT HAPPENED TO THOSE GOOD OLD WAYS? TAKEN? LOST? FORGOTTEN?
WHEN I CAUGHT MY OWN FOOD THE LAST TIME, I ASKED MYSELF?
WHY DO I ASK MYSELF IF IT’LL FILL MY BELLY INSTEAD OF IF IT’LL GIVE ME THE NUTRIENTS I NEED?
WHY ARE WE LIMITING OURSELVES TO WHAT’S ON OFFER INSTEAD OF DEMANDING WHAT WE DESERVE?
IS THERE SOMETHING STOPPING US?
BUT I FEEL WE CAN FORGIVE OURSELVES SINCE WE ARE ONLY 10% HUMAN, RIGHT?
DOES THIS MEAN THE REST OF US ISN’T HUMAN?
Sometimes I feel like we’re little parasites on this planet, feeding off it, squeezing out all the nectar from this precious sphere called Earth…
Things are looking positive, though… There are more alternative food stores, restaurants, drink places, alternative therapies, people, entities, alternative alternatives, and whatever else that’s ‘alternative’ than you can think of now than ever before.
Microbial nutrition sounds like the future of health!
Think nanotech and medicine! It’s the microbes that inspired an entirely new branch of science to emerge.
HERE’S THE MICROBIOME!
Without them, what are we?
“We can’t live with (some of) them, nor can we live without(some of) them.”
Does it matter? Why/not?
Either way, I’m happy we’re getting somewhere on a few new things in whichever department that may be… I’d like to see a lot more people like these guys (mentioned above) sharing their stuff with the rest of the world through the immortally immense inter-web-net to enlighten humankind and transcend the limits we have constructed around ourselves, whether by intention or not.
