“OPEN UP” IS ABOUT DARING TO BE HUMBLE AND VULNERABLE. AND HONEST. IT IS ABOUT DARING TO EXPOSE FEELINGS AND LETTING PEOPLE SEE YOU’RE NOT PERFECT. NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE DARE TO MEET ON A TOTALLY HONEST LEVEL, MASKS OFF. LIFE CAN HURT YOU IF YOU DO NOT DEAL WITH YOUR PROBLEMS PROPERLY; NEGATIVE ENERGY CAN BE PERSISTENT. WE MUST DARE TO LET PEOPLE ENTER.

“What the really great artists do is they’re entirely themselves. They’re entirely themselves, they’ve got their own vision, they have their own way of fracturing reality, and if it’s authentic and true, you will feel it in your nerve endings.”
― David Foster Wallace

“What strikes me is the fact that in our society, art has become something which is related only to objects and not to individuals, or to life. That art is something which is specialized or which is done by experts who are artists. But couldn’t everyone’s life become a work of art? Why should the lamp or the house be an art object, but not our life?”
― Michel Foucault

DON’T GET STUCK ON WHAT YOU CAN’T DO. IN FACT, DON’T GET STUCK ON ANYTHING. THE WORLD LEAVES NO ROOM FOR BOREDOM. SPEND TIME WITH PEOPLE WHO WANT TO SHARE THEIR IDEAS WITH YOU. BE WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE CONFIDENT ENOUGH NOT TO GET TERRITORIAL. THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN TOO MUCH RATHER THAN TOO LITTLE. IF YOU CREATE YOUR OWN REALITY, YOU’LL MANAGE.

FROM THAT PLACE, AS SOON AS MY EYES ARE OPEN, I CAN NO LONGER ESCAPE. NOT THAT I AM NAILED DOWN BY IT, SINCE AFTER ALL I CAN NOT ONLY MOVE, SHIFT, BUT I CAN ALSO MOVE IT, SHIFT-IT, CHANGE ITS PLACE, THE ONLY THINGS IS THIS: I CANNOT MOVE WITHOUT IT. I CANNOT LEAVE IT THERE WHERE IT IS, SO THAT I; MYSELF, MAY GO ELSEWHERE. I CAN GO TO THE OTHER END OF THE WORLD; I CAN HIDE IN THE MORNING UNDER THE COVERS, MAKE MYSELF AS SMALL AS POSSIBLE. I CAN EVEN LET MYSELF MELT UNDER THE SUN AT THE BEACH-IT WILL ALWAYS BE THERE. WHERE I AM. IT IS HERE, IRREPARABLY: IT IS NEVER ELSEWHERE. MY BODY, IT’S THE OPPOSITE OF UTOPIA: THAT WHICH IS NEVER UNDER DIFFERENCE SKIES. IT IS THE ABSOLUTE PLACE, THE LITTLE FRAGMENT OF SPACE WHERE I AM, LITERALLY, EMBODIED. MY BODY, PITILESS PLACE.

In business, the professions, the arts, or personal and community life, such skills are essential in fostering Group Projects or Social Artistry, leading to constructive change. Conversely, without these skills, collaborative activity tends to degenerate into petty bickering, which gives “committees” their reputation for inefficiency and interpersonal vulnerability.
Frank E. Weinert and Rainer H. Kluwe psychologists explain that Role-Playing develops a capacity for metacognition (or dialogue with unconsciousness), the ability to think about the ways one thinks. It is a natural result of the exercise of role distance, the shifting between the role of the part being played and the actor’s role in the conference with the director about how that part should be performed. The resulting “choosing self” is a psychological complex that represents a degree of mental flexibility that is a step beyond the ordinary rational level of consciousness because it deals with the realistic capacity to shift among some different frames of reference. It may even be that this type of mental flexibility represents the next step in the evolution of consciousness.

” FOR TRE ÅR SIDEN GJORDE JEG ET TYPISK POPUP DRAGQUEEN-SHOW PÅ FINCKEN I BERGEN. ETTER FORESTILLINGEN TOK JEG AV MEG KOSTYMET, BYTTET DET UT MED MITT AFTER SHOW-ANTREKK, OG SAMMEN MED NOEN “TRANSER” GIKK JEG OVER VEIEN TIL UTESTEDET GARAGE. INGEN AV OSS KOM INN, MED BESKJED OM AT ”VI SLIPPER IKKJE INN FOLK I KOSTYMER”. NÅ ER JEG UTESTENGT PÅ LIVSTID, MED SAMME BEGRUNNELSE. “

” AFTER COVERING YOUR BODY WITH YOUR STORY, I TAKE PICTURES OF YOU TO LATER CLEAN YOU IN THE SHOWER. IT’S ALMOST LIKE HAVING AN AFFAIR, WHERE EVERYTHING THAT WE DO OR TALK ABOUT GOES DOWN THE DRAIN. THEN USUALLY, I’LL DRESS YOU, AND YOU GO BACK TO YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE.”

“Suppose I were to give you a key ring […] with a hundred keys, and I was to tell you that one of these keys will unlock it, this door we imagine opening in onto all you want to be, as a player. How many of the keys would you be willing to try?’
[…]
‘Well, I’d try every darn one,’ Rader tells Lyle.
[…]
‘Then you are willing to make mistakes, you see. You are saying you will accept 99% error. The paralyzed perfectionist you say you would stand there before that door. Jingling the keys. Afraid to try the first key.”

” I JUST HOPE TO CONVEY SOME EMOTION TO THE VIEWERS. IF THIS HAPPENS, YOU CAN SAY THAT I HAVE ACHIEVED MY PURPOSE. I TRY TO BE VERY HONEST WITH THE EMOTIONS I APPLY IN MY PHOTOGRAPHS. I USE PHOTOGRAPHY AS THE BEST WAY TO SHOW THE FEELINGS I CAN NOT EXPRESS IN WORDS OR DEEDS.”
